I am so excited to finally share my images from my Maui Jim Sunglasses shoot in Hawaii! Last year I entered an online contest with Pinhole Pro in hopes of winning the grand prize trip to Hawaii. I found the link through Facebook and while some people told me it was most likely a scam I trusted my gut and submitted on of my favorite images titled, “Daddy’s Boots.” Out of the hundreds of pictures that were submitted the judges and online votes selected only 30 contestants to come to Boston to attend an all day workshop with Blair Phillips. It was in Boston where they revealed my image received first place in the online portion of the contest… I was SO excited! I was one of the only contestants from the West Coast so naturally I was freezing in the winter weather. I was such a San Diego native that I even wore sandals when I first arrived… Oops! Toward the middle of our workshop, Blair decided it would be fun to photograph outside. I have a new admiration for East Coast photographers because while everyone is used to seeing their breath every day I thought I was going to be left behind in Boston as an icicle. I didn’t realize how spoiled I was with my typical San Diego beach sessions. Overall, the workshop was amazing. We learned about new products from Mac-on-Campus, received new websites from Livebooks, built a customized portfolio, and watched Blair Phillips in action. A flew home feeling rejuvinated, but I had no idea how they were going to choose the winner because I was surrounded by so many great photographers.
A few months flew by and I was on a plane to Florida with my family for Christmas vacation when I received an email from Pinhole Pro saying, “call us when you receive this email.” My heart was RACING! Once we landed I ran off the plane and called them right away and they told me I was the grand prize winner! I was dancing like a mad woman in the Florida airport. Six months later our trip finally came and I left for Maui Hawaii. On the second day we woke up at 5:00am for our photo shoot… 5:00 AM!!! For those who don’t know me I am the worst morning person EVER, but I was so excited to get started that I woke up as if it was Christmas morning. We arrived around 6:00am and photographed the models till about 7:00pm. It was an over twelve hour day, but time flew by as we photographed by the pool, along the streets, and on the Maui Jim boat. Photographing in Hawaii is amazing because the colors are so vibrant and the scenery is breathtaking!
Being behind the scenes photographing Maui Jim’s 2012 catalog shoot was a dream come true. I met so many great people who have been the commercial business for years who throughout the day gave me their words of wisdom of how they got to where they are today. I felt as if a new window of opportunity opened up right before my eyes. It gave me the extra push to keep on challenging myself and become better and better with each session I photograph. We ended our evening by going to a cocktail party at Maui Jim’s CEO’s house, which was a three story home right on the sand facing the ocean… It was unreal! I could so get used to living in a home like that (couldn’t we all)… maybe one day! I feel so blessed to be working with a company as great as Pinhole Pro and I’m so excited to see what is in store for my business next year. Oh and shout out to my new friend Alison! She works for Pinhole Press and Pinhole Pro and was my hospitality guide throughout the whole trip. She made me feel like VIP every day… She took me to a luau, drove me around the island, took me to the best restaurants, and made the whole experience something I will never forget! She is now helping me customize my branding logo and website. I’m excited to see what she has in store for me! Here are a few of my favorites from throughout the trip. Thanks to everyone who voted for my picture, encouraged me to go to the workshop, and supported me while I was in Hawaii! You all are so great :)
The only picture I got of myself from the whole trip haha! I’ll be back beautiful Hawaii.
