The greatest gift you can give a photographer is to ask them to return for another photo session. I photographed Ron’s head shots a few months ago and he recently asked me to come back and photograph his children. When I arrived to meet his four little ones I was incredibly impressed by their warmth and energy. When I walked into his home they greeted me with hugs even though we have never met before. Ron really wanted this session to focus on his children and he asked me to take them around his place without his presence so that I could capture their true selves. I am not looking for children to be on their best behavior for my photo sessions. I truly love the crazy and chaotic and when I told Ron that in an email I think he secretly loaded them all with handfuls of pixie sticks to test me. Once we left to start our session these four little ones went ape wild. They are all about 18 months a part so they are the best of friends. They are constantly tickling one another, wrestling, and grabbing each other. Myself and my assistant Chelsea could not help but laugh throughout the two hours of craziness. That’s the only way to truly capture childhood. It’s fun, wild, and filled with never ending energy. We received a work out chasing these four around the park, climbing up trees, and jumping off walls. We had cartwheel contests, backbend contests, and foot races. They climbed on top of shoulders, took about 20 jumping in the air photos, and we all ran on the sandy beach of La Jolla until the sun went down. It was such a joyful shoot to be a part of, I miss these little ones already!
