Engagement Session: Jamie & Katy | Sunset Cliffs, CA | Analisa Joy Photography | Southern CA Photographer

You guys, this has to be one of my favorite engagement sessions EVER! The funny thing is, I didn’t anticipate it being on my list of favorites when they told me the game plan for their shoot. They wanted to incorporate two classic cars at Sunset Cliffs on a sunny Saturday. Sunset cliffs is always congested with people and the crowds tend to peak on the weekends when the weather is warm and inviting. Parking is very cramped and limited so I was trying to envision where we would place their two cars without the distraction of a parking lot. Also, since there wasn’t a cloud in the sky I knew the lighting could be unforgiving if we weren’t able to position ourselves around the sun.

However, these two were so diligent to find ways to work around the unfavorable variables. Early Saturday morning, they received help from both sets of parents and parked 6 cars on the left side of the parking lot. When I arrived for the session, we were able to squish 4 of the cars together and create open space to position the classic cars to our liking. Katy’s parents brought beach chairs and parked themselves in the awkward spaces so that random people wouldn’t try to squish their cars in between… Talk about teamwork!! As a photographer, you always hope for a little bit of haze and maybe a cloud or two so that the sun isn’t so reflective on the water. Sometimes, you aren’t given an option to work around it and you’ll lose details of the ocean as the sun begins to set behind it. However, with the freedom to move the cars, we were able put them various positions so that we could work around the glares. As the sun began to shift, we would reposition the cars to receive awesome sun flares and gorgeous reflections!

This session wouldn’t have been so great if these two didn’t put the time and work into it. On top of that, they have to be one of the sweetest couples I have ever photographed. They have been dating since high school, their best friends, and they both have the most genuine personalities! I met them for the first time in a parking lot and left feeling like I’ve known them for years. They were so easy to work with even though I bugged them every 15 min. to hop into the cars and reposition them! These two have a joy that’s contagious and you can see it displayed throughout their entire session. I’m so honored and excited to be their wedding photographer and already counting down the days! Congrats Jamie and Katy!

This white Mustang has been in Katy’s family since her grandma purchased it in 1966.
Her grandma gave it to her mom for her 15th birthday and it was re-gifted to Katy for her 16th birthday.
The first time Jamie saw Katy was in this car in a parking lot back in 2005. He said it was love at first sight!

Obsessed!

So dreamy!! Can’t take it!

One of my all time favorite pictures ever!
Another cool story, these two Mustangs are the reason Katy’s parent’s are together.
They met at the SD Mustang Club and the rest is history!

I just can’t get enough!

It was hard to leave the Mustangs, but as the sun began to set we ventured out and onto the cliffs!

They also brought their dog!

So cute!!

In love with these! Doggy kisses are the best!

This dress is the perfect engagement session dress!
I loved all the detail and how it danced with the wind!
