Adam & Jenn: Engagement Session | Lake Cuyamaca, CA

I don’t know where to start when talking about my recent engagement session with Adam and Jenn. I met Jenn for the first time back in January and in our first meeting I knew we were going to hit it off. We share so many similarities and every time we get together it seems as if I’m hanging out with a friend rather than a client. I loved the location that she chose for our session because it happened to be the same location where Trent and I received our engagement photos… See the similarities? Driving into the mountains toward Lake Cuyamaca I realized the clouds were gradually becoming thicker and thicker. The closer I got to our destination the less signal I received on my cell phone and when I pulled into the parking lot I lost connection with the outside world completely. We arrived on opposite sides of the parking lot not knowing the other had arrived and since we were not able to use our cell phones we had to use our detective skills to find one another. Thankfully, it was a quick find!

The day itself was nerve racking because the weather was so unpredictable. When we got out of the cars we experienced random spurts of light rain and not to mention we were surrounded by thick fog, high winds, and it was a whopping 40 degrees outside. We decided to power through and begin our session as if it was a normal sunny day. I have to give Jenn a million kudos because while I was wearing the warmest jacket I own (along with gloves), poor Jenn had nothing on but a cute litte dress. We were able to get over the cold weather, but it was the wind that was the worst part because it seemed to cut right through you. We walked onto a fishing dock and it started to drizzle, but luckily they had a spare umbrella (which conveniently matched their outfits) and it turned out to be an adorable prop. In that brief moment I was thankful for the rain… but only briefly! Shooting on the dock was crazy because although we were surrounded by mountains, all you can see is white because the fog was so heavy. Needing a break from the chilly weather we decided to take a break mid shoot and go into the nearby restaurant to get hot chocolate. Talk about warming up the soul!

Once we had feelings back in our fingers we ventured out across the lake. The fog became so thick that we almost disappeared completely into the white cloud. However, I’m glad we did because we were able to capture some of my favorite images. Our time together was an adventure, but it will be one of the most memorable sessions I have ever photographed! I loved that in the cold and windy weather this amazing couple always worked together to keep the other one smiling and warm. Such a sweet and caring love that they have. I had so much fun with these two and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding this October!
